In the winter, Cardedu comes to life in the summer, during the festival "Insieme a Cardedu", with a wide range of interesting events, from music and dance to theater and folklore for the joy of both locals and tourists.
Sailing along the beautiful coast it is possible to admire some of the most beautiful bays in the Mediterranean: Cala Gonone, Cala Luna and Cala Goloritzè are now well-known destinations for tourism.
Incidentally, the entire Gulf of Orosei has been designated by the EU as a SIC (Site of Communitarian Importance), prizes awarded to sites characterized by the presence of important species of flora and fauna. One of the most famous and popular sites is the Grotta del Bue Marino (the cave of the sea cows), once a refuge for the seals, which are currently under threat of extinction. The animal species are numerous and include vultures, birds of prey, mouflons and wild boars, mostly in the inner area.
Cardedu, on the coast of Ogliastra, in a natural park with a wealth of plateaus and plains, lakes and rivers, forests and bushes and beautiful beaches. Founded immediately after a landslide that partially destroyed Gairo in 1951, the village, which for some time was under Gairo's jurisdiction, became its own municipality in 1984.
A sandy seabed with crystal clear water and a coast where dizzying bays suddenly seem to break through the long white stretches of sand and reefs, pebbles and red porphyry paint a beautiful landscape, colorful, rugged and unaffected.
Cardedu is also a favorite seaside resort for windsurfers due to the strong sirocco winds. The province is located on the east coast of the island and stretches from the peaks of the Gennargentu mountains to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The capitals of Tortoli and Lanusei, the mountains and the white sandy beaches and wild rocks that flow into the sea create a beautiful environment where various hiking and cycling routes are located to explore the area.
Rare landscapes, unpolluted marine environments, one miracle after another submerged in the crystal clear waters. Where mountains rise from nowhere, where hidden coves offer an oasis of peace, where all peoples have had the power, where culture can still be found even in caves, where tropical scenes occur, where the most famous artists and actors reside and where hundreds of flamingos come together, that is the place where the holiday feeling can be experienced. Sardinia is the pearl of Italy and Europe. It is also the largest island in the Mediterranean.
History of Sardinia: The prehistoric time of Sardinia is characterized by the typical buildings in natural stone called Nuraghi. There are no fewer than seven thousand of these types of buildings throughout Sardinia. Which tribe left behind these ancient buildings is still unknown to this day.
Like the rest of Europe, Sardinia also had to deal with the arrival of the Romans. The Romans took over all of Europe, but Sardinia was not nearly as popular. The hostile population and the many malaria mosquitoes that occurred on the island caused Sardinia to come to the background. Sardinia was attacked many times after the fall of the Roman empire. For example, the Spaniards, French and Balearic Islands between 700 and 800 AD. tried to attack Sardinia. Eventually the island came into the power of the Byzantine empire.
In the tenth century the Byzantine empire collapsed severely. The Sardinian Knighthood began in this century. In this, four large families came to power, which eventually opposed each other. At the end of the thirteenth century, the families were all weakened and lost power. Pope Bonifacius assigned the island to the Spaniards. They survived many attacks and remained in power until 1708.
The coastline is ideal for all sports and wellness activities in the open air. Among them, canoe trips at sea are most wanted. The privileged position of the canoe and the absolute silence, only interrupted by the sound of the paddle strokes, help you to admire what the coastline has to offer.
