Bungalow for two to seven persons with a veranda, garden and terrace lain on a short walk from the beaches of Marina di Barisardo.

Marina di Barisardo is surrounded by a natural landscape of bays and coves, which are distinctive and attractive. On the Ogliastra coast, in a natural park with a wealth of plateaus and plains, artificial lakes and torrents, forests and bush, beaches, buttes and outcrops lies Barisardo.

Torre di Bari Beaches: A rocky headland on which stands a Spanish tower divides it into two parts, in the post-war period it was visited by men and women separately: the north part, yellow-ochre-colored sand similar to rice, was once called Mari de is ominis and the south part, gray pebbles and fine sand, was instead called Mari de IsFeminas.

Ogliastra, a fairly recent discovery with its beautiful coasts and mountainous interior. Its territory, wedged between sea and mountain, offers a vast array of unique landscapes. A paradise of remarkable beauty situated along the eastern side of Sardinia, where nature is at its best. Some people think that the name Ogliastra derives from the wild olive trees growing in great numbers in the region, but more credited sources link it to the Agugliastra, a huge monolith overlooking the sea.

The Ogliastra coasts are splendid oases set between sea and rock, rugged nature to dazzle us with some of the most fascinating marine landscapes of the Mediterranean. Leaving from the north we encounter the renowned coves of Cala Luna, Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzé, accessible only by boat or on foot; further south there are the beautiful beaches of Tancau, Girasole, Orrì, Cea ,Barisardo, Cardedu, Coccorrocci and the gulf of Sarrala. Enchanting, too is the landscape that climbs up the hills as far as the Gennargentu mountains, indulging the eyes with scenarios of rare beauty.

Ogliastra is a land that must be relished slowly, it deserves more than just the hurried glance of conventional tourism. The entire territory is scattered with archaeological monuments, well-worth visiting: Nuraghi, Domus de Janas, Tombe dei Giganti and Menhir. One can follow trekking itineraries to the discovery of unforgettable places on foot, horseback or by bike, car or land-rover; walking from the mountains towards the sea following underground waterways amid century old forests, flowers, wild animals to reach incredibly beautiful coves.

For those who prefer to travel via the sea, an excursion aboard one of the many motor-boats that cruise along the coast is ideal. The following pages are dedicated to those who wish to discover a paradise of priceless beauty, its culture, its people and its hospitality: Ogliastra. No printed image can fully describe the magic and harmony of this land.

Very close to one of the white sandy beaches in this area. The Marina of Cardedu is picturesque and peaceful, but there are a scattering of bars, restaurants and shops in the area. Alternatively, you can shop in the village of Cardedu, where you can find all of the local produce.

Cardedu was established after the flood at Gairo in 1951, at first part of Gairo and then, in 1984, it became a Comune in its own right. The Comune extends for 2000 hectares, with centuries-old woods with unique flora and fauna, forming an area of exceptional natural beauty around Monte Ferru (875 m amsl). Along the coast, there's a succession of sandy inlets, rocks, stones and red porphyry, to make a varied and unspoilt landscape.

There aren't historic monuments, given the relatively recent formation of the comune, but there are archaeological sites, such as nuraghi, Domus de Janas, a sacred well (Su Presoneddu). As in the past, agriculture is an important sector, producing typical produce such as: oranges, peaches, grapes (and therefore wine), honey, cheese, casu e fitta, casu agedu and milk. The gastronomic specialities are culurgiones, gattò and amaretti.

Ogliastra, with the beauty of its coastline and mountainous interior, is Sardinia's most recently-discovered tourist destination. This corner of the island, bounded by the mountains and the sea, offers an unlimited number of unique attractions for visitors.

In a natural park with a wealth of plateaux and plains, artificial lakes and torrents, forests and bush, beaches, buttes and outcrops lies Cardedu. Founded immediately after a landside partly destroyed Gairo in 1951, the village, which for some time was kept under Gairo’s jurisdiction, became a municipality of his own in 1984.

A sandy seabed with limpid waters and a coast where dazzling coves suddenly appear to break the long white stretches of sand and reefs, pebbles and red porphyry sketch a gorgeous landscape, variegated, rugged and uncontaminated. Cardedu is also a favourite seaside resort for windsurfers because of the strong sirocco winds blowing at 10-15 knots. There are also archaeological treasures scattered on the territory: nuraghi, domus de janas and a scared well (su Presoneddu).

However, being a fairly recent settlement, no historical monument of significance is located inside the village; worth mentioning, though, is the ancient country church Madonna di Buoncamino and the picturesque main village square, a meeting point and a public “living room” for the whole community. Quiet in winter, Cardedu comes to life in the summer, during the festival “Insieme a Cardedu”, with a vast array of interesting events, from music and dancing to theatre and folklore, for the joy of both residents and tourists.

The whole area of Ogliastra includes fine white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, cliffs which fall sheer to the sea, age-old woods and dry desert plains. Sailing along the wonderful coast it possible to admire some of the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean: Cala Gonone, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè are nowadays very well-know destinations for tourism.

As a matter of fact the whole Orosei gulf has been appointed by the EU as SIC (Site of Communitarian Importance), awards given to sites characterised by the presence of important species of flora and fauna. One of the most famous and popular site is the Grotta del Bue Marino (Sea cow's cave), once shelter for the seals, today in danger of extinction.

The species of animals are numerous and include vultures, predatory birds, moufflons and wild boars, mostly in the internal area. Arbatax is a small village quite close to the sea, with a nice port. Its name reminds to the Sarancens raids, quite frequent in the past.

Today Arbatax is an important tourist destination thanks to its beaches and its typical seafood. Tortoli' and Santa Maria Navarrese are two other important tourist sites. In particular, Santa Maria Navarrese shows an interesting church, dated back to the XI century. The legend tells that the Navarra Princess, victim of a shipwrecked coming back from the Holy Land, made contact with this land saving herself from death and ordered to build the church as sign of thanks.

From the archaeological point of view, to be noted is the “holy area of Sa Perdalonga', near Barisardo. The area includes one of the most important menhir of Sardinia, surrounded by rocks from where it was used to attend the ceremonies. Another important monument is the church of San Antonio in Orosei.

The first structure is dated back around the XIII century and the tower near the church itself seems to confirm that date. The interior of church kept ancient frescoes, recently rehandled. An excursion for nature-lovers amid gorges, crags and caves, searching for the remains of the ancient Nuragic civilisation, in a wild environment.

A place- so different from the renowned beaches along the coast – the hinterland is furrowed with valleys and impervious canyons where shady evergreen forests grow.

On the island, many “green lungs” can be found, where you can spend part of your time. The many trails offer to visitors the chance to be walked on foot, horseback, mountain bike or n all-terrain vehicles.

From north to south Sardinia, the natural repertoire is extremely diverse and full of surprises. It easily happens to find rivers, waterfalls and springs or to come across ancient archaeological remains as Nuraghi, Tombs of the Giants or Domus de Janas.
