We live in a charming traditional village in the coastal mountains of Southern Spain overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean Sea.
The name of our pretty village is Moclinejo, an old and quiet rural community pop.1000. Ideally situated, it nestles in the foothills just a 20-minute drive from the sandy beaches and the bustle of coastal resorts, at a height of 500 metres it has spectacular views of the sea and surrounding mountains. It is just 35 minutes away from the historic city of Malaga and its airport.
Our guest houses are in the centre of the village opposite the Church and we live next door. We can welcome a group of between four and nine guests to stay in one or both houses (depending on size) the houses which surround a large terrace and swimming pool (5x3m). Both houses have TV and AC.
The larger of our two houses, ‘La Casita’, has two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and two bathrooms. It has its own roof-top sun terrace commanding stunning 360-degree views of sea and mountains. On the ground floor is a comfortable sitting room with TV and fire place, a dining area and complete kitchen. This house has a washing machine and a dishwasher. Apart from the front door leading up from the pretty street and Church, there are two doors to the terraced gardens. One exits to a shady vine covered terrace and the other to a larger one. with a lemon and orange tree. This house is ideal for up to six guests. If you are a larger party, on the other side of this terrace is our smaller house ‘Dos Chimeneas. This is available in addition if required. This is again completely self-contained and has one large family bedroom, a double bed and a single with an adjacent bathroom. Downstairs there is a large comfortable sitting room with TV and fireplace, a dining room and kitchen.
The large terrace that separates the two houses has the swimming pool at one end and an open cool room with ceiling fans at the other, ideal for al fresco dining. This quadrangle is completely private. There are plenty of pretty exterior lights and a barbecue and outside shower.
Our smaller house, Dos Chimeneas ideal for a small family can, by special arrangement, be available on its own out of season.
Next door to our houses is a new Museum built 2020 to celebrate the glory of the grape!. At the bottom of the garden is a pharmacy and a doctor’s surgery. Just a minute’s walk away is a car park and close to this is the main square modestly called Plaza de España. Here there is Reyes Bar. This restaurant’s popularity stretches well beyond this parish. They also offer a takeaway service established in 2020 during the COVID crisis. The Plaza is arguably the social centre of the village. Full of activity especially at Fiesta times of which there are quite a few. There is a small market held here every Friday. Here also is the grand Ayuntamiento (town hall). Next to this is a new Art Gallery. A stones throw from here is the Bodega that makes world renowned wines from the September grape harvest. A little further afield, a five minute walk away, is a large public swimming pool, plus a children’s pool, a football pitch, a gymnasium, an indoor sports hall, a paddle tennis court and close by, a primary school. Also within a 5-minute walk from us in another direction is a children’s playground, a small but well stocked supermarket, a bakery (fresh bread daily), a bus stop and another car park. From here a bus will take you down to the coast 5 times a day and into Malaga twice a day - and back! Finally each morning a baker arrives outside our door or in the plaza if you miss him, sonorously announcing his presence with fresh bread.
Our Village is one of the famed white villages of Andalusia. (Pueblo Blanco). We are one of the few that are on the ‘raisin route’, a handful of renowned villages for being producers of the very special and delicious Malaga Dulce sweet wine. We are lucky too to be in Ideal walking and bike riding country, surrounded as we are by endless paths and goat trails meandering through wild olive groves and carefully tended vineyards. Horses Donkeys and Goats are common users. Eagles and Red Kites can often be seen circling above the valley at different times and our sunshine record is the best in Europe and we experience the least rainfall. It is likely not to rain at all between May and November
We are a short albeit winding drive down to the coast where there are a variety of shops and restaurants and beaches If you are interested in exploring further Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Rhonda are all within about 2 hours or so by car or public transport, A high speed train connects Malaga with Madrid. Extraordinarily It is possible to Ski in the Sierra Nevada National Park (over 3000 m) area at Granada from the end of November to the end of April.
Malaga is a charming city and very accessible by bus or car. The historic old quarter is not very large and is well worth a visit or two. It is bordered by the Port, a thriving area of modern restaurants and shops and of course boats and ships of all variety. The Cathedral is in the centre of the old quarter which has enough museums art galleries and tapas bars and shops to excite anyone. It is of course also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso.
